North SichuanMedical  College is located in Nanchong, a city famous for its role as theorigin of  China’s Three Kingdoms Culture. The college’s origins can be tracedback to 1951,  when it was established as North Sichuan Medical School ofSouthwest China. In  1965, it was elevated to the status of a vocational collegeand again in 1985 to  the status of an undergraduate college, when it receivedits current name, North  Sichuan Medical College. The college has always workedto uphold a spirit of  “Fighting Arduously and Striving Unremittingly” throughthe guidance of its  motto: “Commitment, Fraternity, Honesty and Creativity;”while maintaining a  guiding ideology of “people-oriented and quality-oriented”education as well as a  method of rearing talent focused on knowledge, abilityand moral character. In  this manner, the college has developed into ahigh-level provincial-status  institution specializing in medical studies, withsecondary fields of study in  medicine, the humanities, management, law andengineering.


 


       In  2005, the college began recruitingoverseas students and in 2006 was granted  authority to award Master’s Degrees.Today the school has nearly 16,000 full-time  students, among which there are14,274 undergraduate students, 612 graduate  students, 310 overseas students and2,080 continuing-education students, which  forms the backbone of the college’smultilayered plan to “firmly uphold  undergraduate education, actively develop graduate-levelstudies and make steady  steps to develop overseas student education.” Thecollege has already become one  of China’s first experimental schools to berecognized for its “outstanding plan  for medical education and nurturing” inaddition to being recognized by the  Ministry of Health for being the base ofperitoneoscope operations training and  of clinical undergraduate education aswell as its medical imaging department.  


 


       The  college has two campuses establishedin Shunqing and Gaoping Districts  respectively, which together comprise an areaof more than 200 acres. Made up of  21 different educational departments, theschool has 20 undergraduate medical  fields of study: a nationally unique  medical imaging department,  provinciallyunique fields in medical imaging, medical examination techniques,  optometry andanesthesiology, and provincially high-level recruitment majors of  medicalimaging, oral medicine, anesthesiology, Western China medical studies,  clinicalstudies and optometry. In addition, the college has 23 provincial-level  elitemajors, elite resource sharing courses and elite open online courses as  well asa provincial-level model experimental education center, a virtual  simulationexperimental education center, 23 directly and indirectly managed  hospitals and55 internship hospitals.


        


       The  college has a national top-prioritymedicine department, a national top-priority  vocational clinical department, anational top-priority vocational medicine  department, a provincial-leveltop-priority department and 16 provincial-level  top-priority medicaldepartments. In addition, it possesses a post-PhD innovation  and practice baseand 2 joint doctoral nurturing institutions. The college’s  graduate education includessystematic learning and professional degrees:  systematic learning degrees arebroken down into medical and clinical studies  while professional degrees arebroken down into clinical, nursing and Chinese  medicine studies; these twocover 7 different tier-one and 26 tier-two fields of  study medicine, nursing,Chinese medicine, pharmacy, public health, preventative  medical studies andstomatology. In addition, the school has 418 graduate  supervisors and 2part-time graduate supervisors.


 


       The  school has 12 scientific researchinstitutions dedicated to medical imaging  studies, 4 national second tierclinical immunity laboratories, one  provincial-level top-priority laboratory, 4provincial-level top-priority  rheumatism immunity and infection immunitylaboratories, one provincial-level  top-priority humanities research base, twoprovincial-level technology and  innovation teams, and six provincial-levelhigher learning technology and  innovation teams. In the coming year, thecollege will establish a national-level  natural sciences base, a nationalsocial sciences base as well as over 900 other  projects. In addition, it wasawarded over 30 provincial and ministerial level  prizes for achievement and itsprofessors’ thesis as was featured in the  internationally-acclaimed academicjournal “Nature.” The college has established  its own academic journal, called “NorthSichuan Medical College  Periodical.”


 


       The  college has over 1,000 full-time professors,among whom more than 800 possess a  doctorate or graduate degree. In addition,the college has more than 400 senior  instructors and senior associate professors.The college enjoys special legal  allowance specialists from the State Council,provincial science and technology  leaders, Sichuanese outstanding contributionspecialists and 100 returned  specialists who studied overseas. When focusing onthe quality of vocational  work, the college strives to perfect teacher’sprofessional ethics and style as  well as perfect the quality of vocationaleducation, which has earned the college  recognition for “ being a nationalleader in implementing teacher’s professional  ethics and style.”


 


       In  2007, the college passed the Ministryof Education’s Undergraduate Education  Operation Standard Assessment withflying colors. Students at the school have  successively won great achievementsat the National College Student  Extracurricular Technology Works Competitionand the National College Student  Innovative Plan Competition. In 2017, astudent from the college won a regional  first-level prize and a national second-levelprize in the National Tertiary  Education Clinical Technology Competition. Therate of graduation for graduate  students at the school has remained at 100% andthe school has been recognized as  a “leading school in Sichuan for studentcompletion rates.” At the same time, the  college continues to educate theentire staff and excel in all directions while  continuously pushing theideology of student work ethic toward systematization  and an increased abilityto set an example.


 


       The  college is actively strengtheningincreased international cooperation and  exchangerecently establishing a sister-school  relationshipwith Toledo University in the United States, establishing friendly  partnershiprelationships with Taiwan’s Bu Ying University, England’s Swansea  University,Canada’s Saskatchewan Science and Engineering College, Japan’s Tokyo  Women’sCollege and East Asia’s Education Center. In addition, the college is  activelydeveloping qualified teachers training, scientific research cooperation,  and foreignstudent exchanges, recruiting overseas students from the United  States, Canada,India, Pakistan and 13 other countries in order to develop the  college’sundergraduate and graduate programs.
